Getting ahead of the smoking ban in July, swish cocktail bar Rubicon has become the first non-smoking bar in Surbiton.
The owners asked customers if they would like the bar to be non-smoking, and found that 80 per cent of punters said yes.
Smokers can still indulge their addiction in the bar's downstairs area and on the sheltered garden patio.
Bar owner Rachel Barnes said: "We have been thinking about this for some time to improve the atmosphere of the bar and for the sake of our staff. We are pleased that the survey revealed such a positive response. It is likely that the inevitable ban in July has geared people's attitudes towards accepting such a proposal."
