Drop-in sessions will be held for Tolworth residents to have their say on Tesco's report into the area and plans for a superstore and residential development.

Three sessions will be held at Your Move in the Broadway, from 11am to 1pm on August 16, August 30 and September 13.

It will mark the end of the first phase of the consultation with the community, which started with a working group discussing the future of Tolworth.

Tesco has released a report on the group's findings, is consulting on that and will use people's thoughts in a design brief for a new plan. That design brief will go before the working group before another planning application is submitted to Kingston Council.

Tesco's corporate affairs manager James Wiggam said: "These sessions will be open to all residents, whether they are part of the working party or not.

"We have had lots of feedback on the report and this is being incorporated into a final version. The whole process has given us a great insight into the aspirations of the community and how Tolworth can be improved."

"to discover how Tesco will improve town"

Lazy cutting and pasting of a Tesco PR feed no doubt.

What about
1. congestion
2. pollution
3. effect on existing shopping centres, eg Tolworth an Surbiton.

How will all these be improved?

Paul, good to see you have actually read the report.

Perhaps congestion and pollution will be reduced by fewer Tolworth residents driving to New Malden or Surbiton etc to do their shopping. TFL surveys estimate that 95% of vehicle traffic to a new development is actually existing traffic anyway. Tesco's may improve as it is in their interests to get people in and out ASAP. Unlike Kingston Council or TFL who have done nothing for 30 odd years now.

Interesting description of Tolworth as an exisitng shopping 'centre'. Have you been there recently? Count the amount of shops now closed or taken over by charity shops, takeaways or 'grocers shops'. A couple of half decent shops but I can't do my weeks shopping there, and neither can most Tolworth residents judging by the amount of shops closing and traffic desperate to get residents out of there. Tesco's may actually help bring people to Tolworth as opposed to them now being driven away.

Alternatively you could go to one of the sessions and actually see the report?
