Most Berrylands residents would like a return to weekly rubbish collections, according to a survey carried out by the local Conservative Party.

The unofficial survey of 2,000 residents found that 76 per cent of the 950 people who replied would like to return to a weekly collection of non-recyclable waste. The survey also found that 79 per cent of respondents do not want a so-called spy chip' in their bin to measure how much they are throwing away.

There’s no need to bully people into recycling with intrusive inspections and half-sized bins – just provide recycling facilities and recycling rates will go up.”

Conservative PPC Helen Whately

There was also a small percentage of people who admitted they have made more trips to the dump since the trial came in.

Conservative Parliamentary candidate Helen Whately said: "There's no need to bully people into recycling with intrusive inspections and half-sized bins - just provide recycling facilities and recycling rates will go up."

But Councillor Liz Shard, the executive member for sustainability and biodiversity, said an official survey of residents will be carried out by MORI on behalf of the council next month.

I'd seriously question the authenticity of this "unofficial" survey. I live in Berrylands, and was speaking to several neighbours at the weekend.
Not one of them was surveyed.

Perhaps the conservaties would care to share the methodology behind the survey.

Was the survey group restricted to known conservative supporters / certain streets / oap's only, etc??

To send out the surveys, the electoral register was used. Every household in the trial area who had someone who was on the register at the time the letters were printed, should have received a letter and survey. I guess with any large mailing like this, there will be a few that go missing. However, I am sure that this would be a very small number, due to the huge number of responses received.

As the survey was only delivered to two very marginal wards (parts of Alexandra and Berrylands), I would expect the number of responses from Conservative and Lib Dem supporters to be very similar. The survey was deliberately written to be non-political.

If anyone in the trial area would like a survey, please contact me with your name and address and IÂ’ll drop one over to you. It is unlikely that a few extra will make much of a difference to the final percentage figures that have been reported in the press. However, I am more than happy to take up any individual problems that you highlight on the form.

A report showing the full results of the survey will be sent out to those in the trial area in a couple of weeks time.
