A man who hanged himself in a Surbiton garage has been named as 47-year-old Gerald England.

Police were called to the garages beneath Headley Court, King Charles Road, at around 7pm on Thursday, January 3.

The body was found hanging from the rafters and fire crews assisted in cutting him down.

It is thought he died on Christmas Day - more than a week before his body was discovered.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: "The body had been there for a week, but because it has been so cold it had not deteriorated."

An inquest into his death will be held at a later date.
