A Norbiton household nearly lost more than they bargained for when a garden fire to burn rubbish got out of control last night.
A shed and fence were destroyed in the fire in Gloucester Road, which was attended by firefighters from New Malden.
Station manager Neil Sinclair said they were called at 10.16pm and managed to stop the fire spreading to a nearby garage.
Nobody was injured.
