A military exercise

12:48pm Tuesday 13th May 2008

PUPILS from St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Beckenham, have been put through their paces on a Military Boot Camp, designed to improve children's fitness.

The event, organised by Amida Racquets and Fitness Spa, was part of the Fitter Schools UK Challenge 2008, which gives schools the chance to win sports equipment and encourages children to lead healthy lifestyles.

During the exercise, the children enjoyed fun military-style activities, including scrambling through army nets and marching around the school field chanting customized army songs.

Mark Amos, manager of Amida Beckenham, said: "The aim of the roadshow is to encourage children to be more active and take pride in increasing their fitness levels"

The Fitter Schools UK Challenge is fronted by ex-England footballer Ian Wright, who knows how important exercise is for children.

He said: "There are so many competing demands on children's time and physical activity is often forgotten, both at school and in the home.

"It's time to get kids enthusiastic about sport again - it's great fun and it keeps you healthy."

Mark added: "The Amida Boot Camp team were thrilled at the response and enthusiasm displayed by St Mary's pupils."
