School gets top marks

Final year pupils at Marymount International School have been celebrating this summer after smashing the average point score for this year’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma exams.
Every candidate passed their diploma, which are being increasingly seen as a viable alternative to A-levels, with the average score of 35 points equivalent to more than four A grades in the Government-favoured exams.
One student in particular gained a “perfect” result of 45 points - a score gained by fewer than 60 pupils out of the 30,000 who took the exam around the world.
A spokesman for the school said: “We are extremely proud of all of our students. The dedication of the students themselves and the faculty that guide them is exemplary.
“We applaud each member of the community for their commitment and hard work.”
The IB Diploma aims to give students a much broader education than standard A-levels, with an emphasis on “learning to learn” and preparing pupils for continuing their education at university.
