A school talent contest has put stars in the eyes of a 12-year-old Rydens School pupil.
Heather Baxter entered an inter-house talent contest last Wednesday as chart-topping artist Duffy and won, beating nine other acts.
About 250 people in the audience at the Walton school voted and Heather beat acts including a group of Sixth Form boys who performed as Take That, as well as last year’s winner.
“She sings all the time but we were never sure how good she was because you always think your child is brilliant at everything,” said her mum Sharon.
“She just loves singing and is always singing through the house and in the shower.”
Head of drama, Hannah Doonan, said Heather was a surprise winner because she had not auditioned for plays or school shows before.
“She’s a real find,” she said. “We didn’t know how good she was but she beat people much older than her so she’s done really well.”
