Popular children’s author Alan Gibbons captured the imagination of Burntwood students when he visited the school to run writing workshops.
The award-winning “Shadow of the Minotaur” author ran the workshops for years 10 and 11 at the Tooting school on Friday October 10.
He chatted with the girls about how he came to be an author, and following his visit every one of his books was out on lone from the library.
Taskeen Siddiqi, school librarian, said: "Alan Gibbons was a very inspirational speaker. At Burntwood, we actively promote reading and we regularly invite authors to the school to encourage students to read more. We value books highly, both for learning and for reading for pleasure."
Mr Gibbons is campaigning with other authors like Jacqueline Wilson to save the status of the book and to defend public libraries from spending cuts
