Metal rockers ready to come of age

8:00am Wednesday 20th August 2008

On your 18th birthday the mind of most teenagers is firmly set on getting down the pub and having your first legal drink.

But not for the members of metal-rock band Send Forth the Colony, three members of which have just reached adulthood.

"I’m really happy with the songs and I reckon they will be quite well received when we play them.

But instead of racing down to the nearest ale house, the five-piece were instead writing frantically for the debut CD, taking a break from a year of touring the length and breadth of the country.

“We stopped for about three months and just wrote our new five track CD which we are recording in September,” said guitarist Andres Perea, one of the fledgling youngsters.

“It’s more melodic than our old stuff and a lot easier for people to get into.

“It’s still metal but now it’s different and a bit more hard core influenced.

“Hopefully our mates record label will be helping us with the distribution for the CD but we are trying to do it ourselves without getting any of the labels involved.”

The five, Chris Sav on vocals, Paul Galivan on bass, drummer Josh Dunne and guitarists Angus Negra and Andres knew each other from shows they had performed with their previous bands before those groups split up.

They got together about 18 months ago and have been playing around the country ever since, including a packed out gig at Unit 22 in Southampton when they played with popular rock indie band Lynchpin.

However, they were eager to take a break and write some new songs they could perform.

“We have been writing mainly so we can have new material,” said Andres.

“We are doing a show in London that is going to pretty packed out and that’s the first time we will have played them.

“I’m really happy with the songs and I reckon they will be quite well received when we play them.

“For now we are just going to record the CD and then play a lot of gigs in the lead up to Christmas.”
