Clay and children can be a dangerous mix, but for Indefinite Articles it creates a wonderful piece of interactive theatre.
Each Claytime is totally unique, with a world of fabulous forms, amazing animals and morphing monsters drawn directly from the young audience and formed out of a huge mound of good old-fashioned clay.
Devised and performed by Steve Tiplady and Sally Brown, with unique evolving musical instruments made out of clay and performed by Giles Leaman, the artists ask their audience of toddlers for ideas on characters, settings and stories into which the clay is moulded and a play improvised.
Each play is therefore unique to that audience and culminates with a short on stage workshop where the children get their chance for some hands-on clay time.
Indefinite Articles was founded by Tiplady and Brown in 1995 to create and tour visual theatre using objects and materials, working from the premise that everything has a story to tell.
Since then they have given 500 performances in 10 different countries and Dust - a performance that uses three actors, three overhead projectors and three buckets of sand - won the Time Out Live award in 2002 for most inventive show.
