Choir's ready to sing

10:48am Tuesday 2nd September 2008

Thames Philharmonic Choir’s exciting new season of concerts has been announced - the highlight of which is a joint concert with the Symphonic Choir of Konstanz from southern Germany on Sunday, May 9, in Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre.

The concert will be a performance of Mendelsohn's Elijah in celebration of the bi-centenary of the composer's birth.

The choir's first performance of the new season will also be at the Southbank Centre with an informal concert in the foyer of the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, September 21, as part of a new series of free Sunday afternoon concerts at the venue.

On Saturday, February 28, the choir will perform closer to home with a concert of Vivaldi's Gloria and Bach's Mass in G in Kingston Parish Church. The final concert of the season will be at Barn Church, Kew, on Saturday, July 11, for which the programme is yet to be decided.

The choir will also be participating in the Crisis carol service in Southwark Cathedral on Saturday, December 13, the third successive year in which the choir has been invited to perform in the service.

Keen singers are invited to attend two "come and sing" rehearsals on Tuesday, September 30, and Tuesday, January 13, both in the Granard School, Westleigh Avenue, SW15, at 7.30pm.

The opening rehearsal of the new season takes place on Tuesday, September 9, also at the Granard School, at 7.30pm. For more information contact Helen Sadler, membership secretary, on 020 8948 2607, or visit thamesphilchoir.org.uk.
