Think you have what it takes to be a star but too scared by the bright lights and high trousers of Simon Cowell?
Then maybe Idol 2008 is the competition for you.
For the first time this year, the fourth time the event has been held, dancers are eligible to enter as they auditions rock up in to Croydon this weekend.
The competition is for singers, vocal groups, dancers and dance groups and in 2007 there were more than 10,000 applicants, making it the largest talent contest outside Cowell’s X-Factor.
Prizes can go up to £25,000 and already there are more than 7,000 dancers and singers signed up nationally to this year’s competition.
There are two age categories, one for those under 18 and another for those over and those selected will go on to appear in regional live shows, from which acts will qualify for the grand final.
The winning act will win a recording contract to release their own single with the aim to nationally chart and the dance winners will go on a UK tour and appear in the video for the vocal winner’s single.
Last year’s winners B-Kay and Kazz debut single You know It’s Right reached the top 30 in the national charts.
