Six post offices will be closed as part of a cost-cutting exercise despite massive opposition and hopes that a public consultation would persuade the Post Office.

Two branches in Kingston, two in New Malden, one in Surbiton and one in Worcester Park could now be closed as early as July it was announced this week.

A spokesman for the Post Office, which will shut at least 155 branches across London, said: "These are difficult decisions which have not been taken lightly."
