Parents are becoming increasingly concerned for children's safety after the closure of the 833 bus route.

Many children from Hinchley Wood School now face waiting an hour for a K3 with space, or walking up to 40 minutes to school near busy roads. tfl.gov.uk/tfl/" target="_blank">Transport for London (TfL) and Surrey County Council decided the service, run specifically for the Esher school, was not viable and cancelled it in December. They cited numerous other routes including routes 71, 465 and K4 from Hook to Surbiton, followed by the K3.

Paul Edwards from TfL said: "I accept that the journey time of 45 minutes is longer than was the case with the 833.

"The numbers involved are, regrettably, insufficient to justify the very high costs that would be incurred in introducing a dedicated replacement for the 833."

But parents claim the 833 was up to 75 per cent full in the afternoon. There was chaos in December, with children sometimes watching two full buses go past before one with space arrived.
