Plans to expand and redevelop Tolworth Girls’ School – and build more than 100 new homes on an old field – have been given the thumbs-up by Kingston Council officers.
All that remains is for councillors, who deferred a vote in March over air quality fears, to approve the scheme.
New air surveys show that pollution levels on the site of a proposed new games area fall within safe levels, despite being next to the busy A3.
In the intervening period the school has been busy drumming up support for its plans, and has said it will submit a 600-strong petition to councillors in hope of swaying them.
The developer behind the 106 planned homes has also agreed to pay Transport for London (TfL) £210,000 to put on extra buses to ferry pupils back and forth.
But that was not the only traffic concern at March’s meeting. Fullers Way North is already choked by cars in busy periods so TfL has asked for a further £224,000 as a part contribution to an improved junction with the A3.
Councillors will vote on the plans on Wednesday, June 10, at 7.30pm in Guildhall.
