Surbiton residents are invited to come along to a clean up and picnic day in Fishponds Park on Hollyfield Road this weekend.
The event will take place on Saturday, August 11, from 10am to 4pm and will involve a clean-up of the ponds and surrounding areas.
Residents are encouraged to bring a plastic-free picnic to raise awareness about recycling and discourage the use of single-use plastics.
Elliott Newton, nature conservation expert at the Environment Trust, will give a short talk on local wildlife at 2.30pm, and local community Sgt George Alleway will be on hand to talk about the work he does in and around the local area to improve the environment.
Cllr Sushila Abraham, who represents Berrylands Ward, said: “We hope that as many people as possible can come along to this great event.
“It is a fantastic opportunity to come together as a community, have fun and improve Fishponds Park, so that it can be enjoyed for many years to come.
“Our aim is to form a 'Friends of Fishponds' group, where interested local residents can come together and volunteer to help maintain the park.
“ Their work will help protect the environment and encourage wildlife to flourish.”
