Snowboarders from all over the world will descend on Battersea for Britain’s first ever World Snowboard competition, to be broadcast on Channel 4.
The LG London Big Air event is taking place at Battersea Power Station on October 25 and will attract some of the world’s best snowboarders, including a number of the British Snowboard Team.
The competition, which will be staged on a specially constructed ramp with real snow, is the headlining event for a new winter sports festival, the LG Freeze which will run from October 23-26 and will provide a 7,000 capacity music auditorium for live bands, and an Alpine Village with a range of interactive entertainment, competitions and displays.
British No.1 Men’s Snowboarder, Dan Wakeham said: “It’s amazing news about the London Big Air, and I really look forward to competing against the world’s best in front of a home crowd. This is a huge boost as I begin my preparations for the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010.”
Mark Simmers, CEO of SnowsportGB, who are organising the event said: “To stage a Snowboard World Cup in the UK for the first time is a massive boost for the sport, and will bring a huge amount of profile to our British Snowboard athletes when they compete at home against the world’s best.”
