Commuters are being warned the Kingston-bound lane on Fairfield South will be closed this morning.
The junction near Hawks Road and Villiers Road will be shut from the morning of Wednesday, July 11, so a fault on a major electricity cable transporting power to Kingston and Surbiton can be urgently repaired by energy company UK Power Networks.
A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said the comapny needed to put one-way traffic restrictions and traffic diversions in place to carry out repair work safely.
She said: "We have worked closely with the local authority in planning the work which started today and is due to be completed by Thursday, July 19.
"We apologise to local residents for the inconvenience caused and can assure them we will complete this vital work as quickly and as safely as possible."
Diversions will be in place through Albert Road, London Road, Fairfield North, Wheatfield Way, and Orchard Road and although the footpath will be intermittently closed the pavement outside St Joseph Primary school will remain open throughout the day.
