The Hindu “festival of lights”was celebrated with a lights switch on in the borough for the first time.
Mayor Roy Arora led the celebrations in the Ancient Market Place
Residents and shoppers were treated to an Asian mini food market and live music for Diwali in the Ancient Market Place on Thursday, November 5.
Kingston and Surbiton were both lit up to celebrate the Indian festival, which takes place today.

Mayor Roy Arora said: “For the first time in the history of our borough, three town centres and some of our municipal buildings were lit up in celebration of Diwali.
The festival was celebrated with live music and dancing
“It was a lovely evening, despite the rain, and I'm overjoyed that so many people from different faiths and cultures turned out to mark this celebration."
