Firefighters are tackling a fire in Hawks Road, Kingston this morning.
Hawks Road is blocked off by police and traffic is being diverted.
The fire is believed to be near Albert Road and is being tackled by 20 firefighters.
Traffic is backing up as far as New Malden.
Chris Port, in the Simone Kay Stained Glass shop in Fairfield South, said his partner saw police outside at about 8am and he saw a big fire in a terraced house.
He said: "The smoke was incredible. It was really huge. It looked very serious.
"The roof was of concern. They had the crane here. It was way above the height of the house and there was a lot of breaking of glass and windows and smashing of the top part of the building.
"It has caused traffic chaos."
