A man believed to be in his 60s is in a critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Hook Road this evening,
Part of the dual carriageway was closed after an accident involving a pedestrian shortly after 5.30pm near the Hook library.
The road re-opened shortly before 8.30pm.
The A243 Hook Road northbound was closed due to the accident between Clayton Road and Somerset Avenue.
Bus routes 71, 465 and K4 were on diversion.
Steve Boulding, manager of Mr Chips, said the accident appeared very serious as the road had been closed for hours.
He said: "They've still got the road closed off now. There's lots of flashing lights.
"Its horrible just before Christmas."
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the man had been taken to hospital in what is believed to be a critical condition.
