By Amelia Jane Day, IYAF Press Team Big talent outside of the Big Top Hidden away in the ACT Theatre, a magical cave of arts, theatre and creativity, Circus Suburbia presents their thoroughly anticipated cabaret show featuring their exceptionally talented Youth Circus. Presented by compere-come-magician-come-musician Jamie Longcake, expect to be enthralled by spectacular solo and synchronised trapeze, dazzling hula hoop acts, group acrobatics, LED Poi, stupendous silks, ropes and many themed performances including Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. There is something for the whole family in this beautiful, dynamic youth circus show.
Their Youth Circus show last year went down a storm as it put a circus twist on the ancient Greek tale of Persephone and her abduction by Hades. Creative as ever, they utilised the cafe of the Rose Theatre in addition to the main auditorium, to tell the story and explore the world of Greek Gods. If this show was anything to go by, When I was Younger is not to be missed.
Circus Suburbia, founded by Katie Hardwick and Jon Udry, is a social enterprise with the mission to bring circus to suburbia by offering affordable, high quality classes to youths and community groups. Their teachers are all qualified, practicing performers at the top of their industry. As part of the International Youth Arts Festival, the company have performed their show Atrium in Kingston’s Bentall Centre. Suspended from the glass ceiling they spun on silks creating an astounding performance for spectators below. Circus Suburbia has also been guests at venues both local and international such as John Lewis, The Rose Theatre, Ham House (National Trust) as well as corporate events in Scandinavia, Italy and Holland.
Every performance held by Circus Suburbia is imaginative, inspiring, of an incredibly high standard and always a pleasure to watch.
Circus Suburbia’s Youth Circus Cabaret will be on today, Sunday the 20th of July at 5.30pm and Monday 21st at 8.30pm, at the ACT Theatre, Main House.
