There is a proposal being put forward to use the wooded area adjacent to the railway line between New Malden station and the A3 for a cycle track.
This is a terrible idea. The land, that is owned by Thames Water, is an undisturbed habitat for wildlife, and to cut down these trees would mean the loss of a haven for birds and other animals.
There is a cycle track already in place linking New Malden to the A3 at the end of Cambridge Avenue, through the golf club, and it meets the underpass on the A3.
I would urge your readers, if they feel as strongly as I do, to oppose this plan.
I believe there is a petition being drawn up.
