A Surbiton curry house has been named the best casual dining restaurant in the suburbs of London at the Asian Curry Awards 2017.
Thali Ho was founded by brothers Shamim and Shah Malek, who received the award in black tie at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
Shamim said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised as one of the best restaurants, not only in London but in the UK. Our key aim is to maintain the high standards we have commenced, however winning this accolade shows that we are already beginning to achieve our goal of providing outstanding food and service.”
The restaurant’s menu was created by head chef Shamim using recipes passed down from the brothers’ parents.
Upon receiving the accolade, the pair thanked their team and their customers for their support.
The Asian Curry Awards were set up to recognise the success of the curry industry, encourage higher standards and to inspire the next generation of chefs.
At the ceremony Asian Catering Federation chairman Yawar Khan acknowledged the problems facing Asian restaurant owners, but highlighted the success of those willing to embrace change, raise standards, update menus, invest in marketing and stop competing on price.
