Hundreds of commuters were evacuated from Berrylands station after a fire next to a track this evening.
The London Fire Brigade was called to the incident in Chiltern Rise at 6.44pm, on February 7, following reports.
National Rail said routes between Clapham Junction and Woking will be affected while it is being attended to.
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said: “We were called at 6.44pm to a train alight. One southbound South Western train consisting of eight carriages.
“Four hundred members of the public were evacuated by railway staff before the arrival of the brigade. Trains on adjacent lines are proceeding with caution, there is a 100 metre cordon implemented around the station platform.
“The incident was [later] handed over to railway staff.”
It is currently unknown what caused the fire.

A National Rail spokesman said: “The control centre has received a report that there is a lineside fire near Berrylands station, blocking the line towards Woking used by stopping (slow) train services. Trains are still running towards Woking on the fast line.
“The fire service are also on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. Initial reports suggested that a train had caught fire, this has now been confirmed to have not been the case.”
“Staff are currently in contact with the train crew, and specialist teams will be working hard to ascertain the problem and rectify it as soon as possible to get the line reopened."

Train services are expected to be delayed or have short notice alterations, while some may be diverted to avoid congestion in the area.
No trains leaving London Waterloo will call at Berrylands or Surbiton, according to National Rail, and passengers should board a train to Esher and change there for trains back up to Surbiton.
Because of a fire next to the track between Clapham Junction and Woking, this means the Woking line is currently blocked.
Train services running to and from these stations may be delayed or revised and disruption is expected to last until 10pm.
