A Kingston synagogue hosted members of the Christian, Muslim and humanist communities last week to mark the fifth night of Chanukah.
Around seventy people attended the event on December 6 as part of the Kingston Interfaith Forum, which seeks to build good relations between people of different faiths in the borough.
Rabbi Rene Pfertzel of the Kingston Liberal Synagogue asked representatives from each community to light a Chanukah candle to mark the Jewish festival of lights.
The event also featured mixed group discussions about the significance of light across the different faiths and in everyday life and a meal showcasing Jewish cuisine.
Reverend Dr Kuhan Satkunanayagam from St Mary's Church in Long Ditton described the event as a “lovely evening” and praised the latkes, which are potato pancakes fried in oil.
Ricky Thomas, a Gentile attendee, said: “The evening was a really enlightening experience, if you'll excuse the pun.
“It was so interesting to see how Chanukah is celebrated and wonderful to see the community share this with other faiths".
