An unidentified body has been discovered in a wooded area behind Nonsuch Park in Epsom yesterday, Surrey Police has confirmed.
A police spokesman confirmed officers were called to Castle Avenue at around 3pm yesterday (January 8) following the discovery of a body.
Surrey Police said the body has not been formally identified yet, and the coroner has been informed.
A police cordon is in place, and police community support officers are at the scene and in the local area.
Detective Inspector Jackie Elkins, of East Surrey CID, said: “We are currently treating the death as unexplained, and we would like to speak to anyone who has been near Nonsuch Park over the last few weeks.
“The area the body was found is popular for dog walkers, so if you remember seeing anyone in the park recently who may appear to have been sleeping there, or perhaps seemed generally suspicious, please contact us so we can piece together the circumstances surrounding the death.”
Reports of an incident near Nonsuch first emerged on social media at around 8.15pm yesterday.
One social media user tweeted at the Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team for “information on what’s happening close to nonsuch park” yesterday evening.
