Champagne glasses were raised in Hook after a couple who have lived in the neighbourhood for more than 55 years celebrated their diamond wedding.
Norman and Muriel Davison, of Bramham Gardens, were married at Christchurch, Surbiton, 60 years ago.
At the time, Norman, now 86, had not long returned from the war. He had signed up in his home city of Liverpool and went on to serve in Burma with the RAF.
Muriel, now 85, lived with her parents, Ernest and Elsie Howell, in Villiers Avenue, Surbiton, and joined the WRNS. She was stationed at a wireless station in Scarborough and was involved in servicing radio equipment which, unknown to her at that time, was relaying critical information to the secret Bletchley Park wartime de-coding centre.
Today, Mrs Davison is an active member of the Kingston retired WRNS association.
After the war, Mr and Mrs Davison lived briefly in Villiers Avenue before renting a flat in Isleworth, Middlesex.
They were thrilled when they secured a licence to live in a newly built three-bedroom house in Bramham Gardens in 1952 and within months they were celebrating the Queen's coronation with neighbours in the cul-de-sac.
Mr Davison worked most of his life for Rank Hovis McDougal as a travelling representative, and got to know dozens of bakers in the Surrey area. He was formerly a keen golfer, and played regularly at Richmond Park.
The diamond pair have two sons, Mark and Nigel, and a daughter, Susan, as well as four grandchildren.
A party for 30 family members, friends and neighbours was held at the Wotton Hatch pub and restaurant near Dorking.
