A teacher at a Kingston primary school has been told to self-isolate after feeling unwell shortly after her son returned from a school trip to northern Italy.
In an email sent to parents of a Year 6 class at Latchmere School on Thursday, February 27, headteacher Julie Ritchie said she asked the teacher to ring 111 and self-isolate until she has been screened and the results returned, according to advice from Public Health England.
“She will be attending the screening pod today and will not return to school until she has a clear result,” she said.
In the email Ms Ritchie said a school assembly by the class would go ahead as planned and that she would keep parents informed of any updates.
A statement on the school’s website states that there have been no confirmed cases of the virus, but as a precaution all staff and parents are following guidance.
It reads: “We have a staff member and four pupils who have links with Grey Court who have self-isolated. Our staff member was screened yesterday and we await the results.
“Thank you to the sensible approach being shown the parents self- isolating and the rest of our school community who are making their own decisions related to their own families. We will continue to update you as necessary.”
