Four people have now been arrested after a stabbing in Kingston that left a 19-year-old man fighting for his life over the weekend.

The Metropolitan Police said on Monday (March 2) they had so far arrested four people in connection to the violent attack, having made two arrests during the weekend.

The stabbing took pace around 03:40hrs on Saturday (February 29), where a 19-year-old man from Barnes was found with stab wounds on Wood Street in Kingston.

He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

On Monday, police offered further updates on the case as they revealed more information about their response so far:

"Four men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

"[A] Aged 20, [B] aged 18 and [C] aged 20, have all been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

"[D] Aged 19, has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

"The man [A] was arrested on Saturday, February 29, at an address near the scene and has since been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and possession of points and blades.

"He will appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court today. (02.03.2020)

"The man [B] was arrested on Saturday, 29 February and taken to hospital for treatment to injuries apparently sustained during the incident.

"Following treatment, he was taken to a west London police station and has since been bailed to return on a date in late March.

"The man [C] was arrested on Sunday, 1 March after he surrendered himself to west London police station and he remains in custody.

"The man [D] was arrested on suspicion of affray on Saturday, 29 February at a west London hospital, where he was being treated for minor injuries. He has been bailed to a date in late March," a spokesperson for the Met Police said.

In Kingston, police imposed a Section 60 over the weekend giving themselves heightened powers to stop and search people in the area around where the stabbing took place.

A crime scene including cordons remained in place around the scene on Wood Street.

Kingston MPS said that bus routes in the area had been impacted, with the Wood Street bus stop (towards Teddington) serving the 281, 285, 481 and X26 routes closed until further notice.

The Met's South West Borough Command Unit (BCU) Commander Sally Benatar meanwhile described the stabbing as "senseless" in a statement issued on Monday:

"My thoughts are with the victim of this senseless attack in Kingston Town Centre, and with his family and friends.

"We are determined to work with our communities and local partners to take weapons off the streets of south west London and to prevent violence in all its forms.

"Local officers are patrolling in Kingston town centre and I would encourage anyone who has concerns to speak to them or to contact their local policing team," she said.
