SIR. Almost certainly the large bird circling over Battersea was a buzzard.
I have watched three buzzards circling over Wandsworth and Putney. It is easy to identify this large bird of prey as it soars in circles for long periods without flapping its wings with its tail closed. An eagle does not soar and circle in this way.
