On seeing the Putney Debates Exhibition, my wife said: "How great now for school to be brought to see this".
I had, sadly, to quote to her Tristam Hunt (The Guardian October 26): "The problem is that these exhibitions are operating in a vacuum - only one (fee paying) school in the area is teaching the civil war.
"Anodyne citizenship lessons... that teach the fundamentals of modern citizenship are being quietly abandoned."
Can you imagine French schools not teaching the 1789 revolution or American schools omitting the Wars of Independence?
