A proposed development for seniors near Epsom Hospital has received a massive boost to its funding to the tune of several million pounds.
Guild Living, a partner of financial group Legal and General who promote senior living developments across the country, said they were putting £4.5 million of funding into the project that at present plans to occupy two acres of "landscaped space" for a proposed residential development near the hospital.
A spokesperson for Guild Living claimed the new site would help alleviate pressures on Epsom Hospital thanks to its proximity.
"With its Epsom scheme situated next to the hospital, Guild Living also hopes to relieve pressure on local NHS services by providing tailored care suites, which ensure recovering patients can staircase back to independent living," they said.
Guild Living also referenced a report by research consultancy Carterwood they said "shows that there will be a need for over 4,000 private extra care units in Epsom and the surrounding area by 2022."

Eugene Marchese, co-founder and director of Guild Living, added his thoughts: "We are delighted to announce our investment in a new public space next to the hospital, providing much-needed new facilities and areas for NHS staff and hospital patients and visitors to relax in.
"Now more than ever, at a time when people are being told to isolate themselves, and our elderly are most vulnerable, we must recognise the importance of purpose-built housing for older people which provides the care they need, supports local NHS services and reduces feelings of loneliness."
"As the owner and operator of later living communities, we are committed to Epsom for the long-term," he said, insisting that the developers would "continue to work closely with residents, community groups and Epsom and Ewell Borough Council as the project evolves to deliver the best scheme for the local area."
The company's plans for the 'later living' space are for 350 residential apartments plus a range of additional features and commercial spots including cafes, restaurants and a GP referral centre.
Legal and General previously bought the land set out for the development from Epsom Hospital for over £10 million, which the hospital since outlined was mostly reinvested to improvements at the NHS University Hospitals NHS Trust.
"With its Epsom scheme situated next to the hospital, Guild Living ... hopes to relieve pressure on local NHS services by providing tailored care suites, which ensure recovering patients can staircase back to independent living," a spokesperson for Guild Living said.
