Surbiton seems to be the favourite haunt of those who work for agencies collecting for charities. The infamous "chuggers".
In the past I have been stopped politely, had a clipboard waved in my face, and the unforgettable waving of arms of one pretending to be apavement barrier.
Most seem to accept that you might not be interested.
This week however one person went too far.
As I passed by with my son he uttered "yeh, go on pretend to be talking to each other".
At the time I just ignored his blatant rudeness.
The more I think about it the more it makes me angry.
If the councils haven't got the authority to rid the pavements of these people then I suggest that the authority be obtained by new legislation.
It is only a matter of time before one of these chuggers oversteps the marks and receives a reaction from a member of the public!
Goodwill is everything to a charity and these chuggers will lose you that very quickly.
Recently we saw how charities should collect, by the laudable work of the Royal British Legion collectors.
