A massive spill of diesel across a road leading to the Leatherhead Bypass brought disruption and further road closures to drivers in the area today (Tuesday, March 2).
Surrey County Council (SCC)'s Highways information service reported the situation early on Tuesday afternoon, as authorities urged road users to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for the county information service said in a short statement posted to Twitter:
"Diesel Spillage - emergency road closure
"A243 #Leatherhead Bypass.
"Both roundabouts between the M25 junction 9 and all roads leading up to these have been closed due to a large diesel spillage."

SCC's Surrey News service later confirmed the news, underlining that "all roads" leading to the bypass were closed.
Both Surrey News and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were urging road users Tuesday afternoon to "please avoid the area" as the spill is dealt with.
