A woman was taken to hospital after she was reportedly assaulted with a football in Leatherhead last week, prompting a police investigation.
Surrey Police who are now looking into the incident announced the probe on Tuesday (March 30).
They said it took place on River Lane near to Leatherhead Youth Football Club last Tuesday (March 23), around 5.15pm.
A statement published by police read:
"The incident occurred close to the Leatherhead youth football club at around 5.15pm and was reported to involve a group of young men deliberately kicking a ball at the woman who was out running nearby.
"After being hit by the ball at some force, the victim fell over and was taken to hospital with injuries to her ankle."
A witness appeal has since been released with people urged to contact police if they can help with the investigation.
