A six-year-old boy is thought to have suffered life-changing injuries in a crash involving a heavy goods vehicle in Leatherhead yesterday evening (April 14), police have said.
The crash happened on the junction between between A245 Kingston Road and Randalls Road at around 5pm on Wednesday.
An air-ambulance lifted the boy, who was walking with his family at the time, to a nearby hospital in the aftermath of the incident which unfolded in view of the nearby BP garage.
In a statement describing what happened and appealing for witnesses, a spokesperson for Surrey Police said the boy had been "taken to hospital by air ambulance suffering from serious leg injuries".
"His injuries are believed to be life changing, but not life threatening," they added.

The driver of the HGV stopped at the scene and police said he was helping them with their investigation.
They meanwhile continued to appeal for witnesses and said the the A245 Kingston Road had been temporarily closed while officers investigated further.
"We are keen to speak with everyone who saw or heard the collision - in particular anyone who was filling up at the BP petrol station; or has dash-cam or helmet-cam footage from the immediate area between 16:50 and 17:10; which may show the victim or HGV involved.
"We would ask that the public don't speculate on the cause of the collision and allow our specialist Serious Collision Investigation Unit officers to carry out their work," the police statement read.
