South London man charged with attacking cop in botched heist

Curtis Saville, 30, from Lambeth, was charged with several offences in connection to the burglary and subsequent violence on Tuesday night (May 11), including:

• Burglary with intent to steal
• Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
• Assaulting an officer with intent to resist arrest

He is due in court again today (Thursday, May 13).

The dramatic burglary and resulting pursuit prompted a multi-faceted response from police including a helicopter and dog team to chase down the suspects.

Police were initially called to Felix Road around 9pm, after they received reports of a group of men with crowbars attempted a burglary.

"Two female police officers who were first on the scene, were physically assaulted by one of the suspects," a spokesperson for Surrey Police said.

They then ran off, before police made arrests including that of Saville.

The Lambeth man is so far is the only person charged by police in relation to the botched burglary.

A 29-year-old man from Addlestone was arrested during the chase but has since been released from custody with no further action being taken against him.
