Emergency services were called to the scene of a house fire in Epsom this afternoon after a lightning strike reportedly hit a home on a residential street.
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and Surrey Police both confirmed their attendance at the blaze on Tuesday (May 18) with numerous crews working to tackle the fire on Sherwood Way.
Reports emerged on Tuesday that the fire broke out after the house was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm that hit the area during the afternoon.

Announcing their presence at the scene, a spokesperson for SFRS posted to Twitter:
"Crews are currently dealing with a fire in a property in Sherwood Way in Epsom.
"Currently there are 9 fire engines in attendance with one aerial ladder platform and an incident command unit.
"Please avoid the area if possible."

Meanwhile police from Epsom and Ewell also announced their attendance at the scene and said they did not believe anyone was injured in relation to the fire, which reportedly broke out around 4pm.
"We are currently assisting our emergency services colleagues with a house fire in Sherwood Way, #Epsom.
"We were called around 4pm today and are assisting with road closures.
"There is not believed to be anyone injured at this time, further updates to follow," a spokesperson for the borough police force tweeted.
