A developer is having a second shot at replacing two houses in Purley with a block of flats nearly a year since a first application was refused.
Plans have been lodged for the demolition of a pair of semi-detached houses and the building of 22 flats in Foxley Lane.
An application for the same site was refused in October 2020 – this was for 23 flats and five terraced houses.
Croydon Council’s planning department found that the development would impact on the neighbouring Webb Estate Conservation Area.
It also found that it wouldn’t provide high quality accommodation or enough affordable homes.
Developer Mantle Homes has now scaled back its latest application, which is for a three-storey block of 22 flats.
In the latest application, Mantle Homes states that trees at the back of the site will not be removed “making any impact on the Webb Estate negligible”.
And 15 of the flats provided would be three-bedroom, three two-bedroom and four one-bedroom flats.
A car parking space would be provided for each flat as well as 46 cycle parking spaces.
The planning application states: “The footprint has been pulled in considerably from both boundaries. This replicates the generous existing building gaps on Foxley Lane and also allows boundary trees and additional trees to grow and create a green veil to the proposals.”
The plans were submitted to the council in July and have received seven public comments in objection.
A decision is expected to be made by October 8.
