Hopes for an August bank holiday heatwave are no-longer as the Met Office confirms there are no signals for ‘particularly warm conditions’ to come.
It’s been a rainy August so far in London – and according to the Met Office the average monthly rainfall across the city has already been exceeded.
A spokesperson for the forecaster said that while there could be more settled conditions across southern areas over the coming weeks, the possibility of thunder and showery downpours continues.
As August comes to its close, temperatures are expected to be around average with some warmer spells possible.
September, however, might be slightly warmer than usual – but a spokesperson for the Met Office has urged that temperatures will fluctuate and that there is a lower confidence in the forecast that far ahead.

The Met Office spokesperson told the News Shopper: “London and the south east has seen temperatures slightly below average for this time of year, but that being said it is only mid-August and there’s the rest of the month to play for.
“With the variability of UK summers, these things can change quite quickly.
“A lot of people in London might feel subdued due to the amount of rainfall already, but it is all to play for as we’re only midway through the month.
“There could well be some more settled conditions coming across southern areas with some dry weather but that doesn’t preclude from intermittent heavy rain and some showers.
“There are no huge signals for particularly warm heatwave conditions in August and the risk of thunder in the forecast does persist.”
This week particular is certainly forecast to be a bleak one, and more rain is to come as the week goes on.
The Met Office spokesperson added: “Going further through this week there will be some showery outbreaks.
“Wednesday will be largely fine and dry but showery rain on Thursday will continue into Friday.
“More persistent rain is looking to build on Saturday as well.”
