“Amid the hustle and bustle of south London, I found myself drifting into a world of tranquillity” says reporter Poppy Huggett.
I’ve never been great at relaxing.
Being the fidgety, extroverted person I am, I just get bored.
At least, that was what I thought.
I visited south London’s latest unique sanctuary, April’s Promise Spa, earlier this week – and how I unwound like never before.
Of course, I’ve been to a spa before - if the jacuzzi in my local gym counts.
But to have not one, but two treatments, in my private room, at a LUXURY spa retreat, was an experience from heaven - something I’ve never done before.
The peaceful getaway is located in the heart of Clapham, on the lower level floor of retirement village, Audley Nightingale Place.
“Have I come to the right place?” I said to myself as I entered the residential building - but was soon greeted by welcoming staff who directed me to the health spa.
I noticed the neutral, calming shades painted across the walls as soon as I stepped out of the lift and into the sanctuary’s reception room.
As I was preparing for my two hours of peacefulness; and skimmed through a Christian Dior fashion book, I took in the smell of refreshing aromas from infusers scattered across the spa.
I was soon greeted by a woman named Farah, who introduced herself as the masseuse who was bringing my chosen treatments to life.
Farah, who was an absolute delight, made me feel at ease from start to finish and topped me up with expert skincare knowledge.
I was lucky to experience two treatments upon my visit – the Himalayan sea salt body massage and the Medik8 glow facial – and yes, the experience was just as good as it sounds.
Within seconds of the body massage beginning, I found myself drifting into a world of tranquillity.
I was at peace and dedicated every second to rejuvenating my mind and body– away from the outside world.
The massage included different calming techniques – such as a deep tissue massage, range of body creams and my personal favourite, the hot stones.
The facial can only be described as sensational, as Farah worked her magic massaging refreshing facial scrubs and creams on my face, whilst talking me through the advantages each product will have on my skin.
After my two hours of luxury, I was able to take a tour around the spa and saw members of the public enjoying their tranquil time – with not one mobile phone in sight.
The Spa features an indoor endless swimming pool, vitality pool, sauna, gym and even a cinema – a perfect retreat for hen-dos or groups looking for a luxury escape.
From the soothing melodies played throughout the retreat, to the pleasant members of staff, my experience at April’s Promise Spa was incredible from start to finish.
I can’t wait for my next visit.
