Transport for London has advised commuters to finish all Tube and rail journeys by 6pm today (June 21). 

It comes on the first day of the biggest national rail strike since the late 1980s takes place. 

With over 40,000 union members and more than 10,000 London Underground workers all taking strike action. 

Now TfL has warned travellers to avoid travel but if you need to, make sure you finish your journey by 6pm as all services will end by 6.30pm. 

The service also encourages commuters to start their journey after mid-morning on Wednesday 22 June as services are expected to still be disrupted. 

The strikes see all London Underground line closes, meaning only the Elizabeth Line, Overground, Tram and DLR are operating.

Commuters whose usual travel has been disrupted this morning have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One user said: "Everyone moving like snails trying to join the a13 London is a disaster without the tubes."

Whilst another said: On Tube Strike days, London’s congestion charge should be increased to at least £150 a day. This would keep London moving and make getting the bus a viable alternative for the day."
