Just Stop Oil supporters protested on the M25 this morning (November 10) for the fourth consecutive day.

At least nine more activists have been arrested by Kent Police, Surrey Police, Essex Police and the Metropolitan police this morning.

Surrey Police arrested two activists who climbed a gantry at Junction eight and between junction seven and eight of the UK’s busiest motorway.

Essex Police said they arrested a woman attempting to climb a gantry around 1.5 miles from Junction 28 clockwise at around 7am.

Assistant Chief Constable Glen Pavelin from Essex Police said: “It was great work this morning from our officers who were brave, stopped someone near a gantry and made an arrest.

“When criminality is occurring, we will act swiftly and make arrests.”

“Our proactive patrols are right across the road network. It’s a difficult environment to work and we have to keep everyone safe."

Five more suspected activists were arrested at around 6.20am today by Kent Police.

Officers on patrol stopped a suspicious car near Westerham and the M25 motorway and found climbing equipment, harnesses, D-locks and banners in the car.

These items have all been seized and the suspects have been taken into custody.

The Met police said that there was another protester on a gantry near Junction 25 at Waltham Cross close to the border with Hertfordshire.

This person has since been removed and arrested.

There was also a report on social media of a protest between junctions 15 and 16, near Heathrow Airport.

Just Stop Oil has vowed to continue its action, saying it will demonstrate “every day” until the group’s demand for no new oil and gas in the UK is met.

Phoebie Plummer, a 21-year-old student from London, said: “I understand people must be frustrated with us, and rightly so, but we have to disrupt daily life because we are hurtling towards climate catastrophe, yet the Government continues to betray me, my generation and people in the global South by issuing new oil licences.”

A police officer was injured during yesterday's (November 9) protests after a crash involving the police motorcyclist and two lorries during a rolling roadblock.

Chief Constable BJ Harrington of Essex Police warned it is “only a matter of time” before someone is killed during a Just Stop Oil protest.
