A restaurant has been damaged by a fire caused by a faulty fridge.
Firefighters were called to a fire at a restaurant with flats above on Ewell Road in the early hours of this morning (January 9).
A small part of the ground floor in the restaurant was damaged by the fire.
Crews assisted four people who evacuated the flats above the restaurant as a precautionary measure.
There has been no injuries reported.
The Brigade was called at 11.44pm and the incident was over by 1.07am.
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Surbiton, New Malden, Kingston, Sutton, Twickenham, and Tooting fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is accidental and due to a faulty fridge.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a restaurant with flats above on Ewell Road in Surbiton in the early hours of this morning.
“A small part of the ground floor in the restaurant was damaged by fire. Crews assisted around four people in evacuating the flats above the restaurant as a precautionary measure.
“No injuries are reported.
“The Brigade was called at 2344 and the incident was over by 0107. Fire crews from Surbiton, New Malden, Kingston, Sutton, Twickenham, and Tooting fire stations were at the scene.
“The cause of the fire is accidental and due to a faulty fridge.”
