Burst water mains have caused chaos and traffic issues in south west London.

On September 16, Thames Water confirmed a burst sewer in Kingston Vale which lead to traffic diversions in the area.

Thames Water has closed the nearby sewage pumping station while it carries out the repair.

To ensure customers can continue to use their facilities, Thames Water are using tankers "around the clock” to remove sewage from the site and reduce impact on the environment.

A spokesperson for Thames Water says that it aims to fix the sewer pipe by September 22, 2023.

There has been read closures and emergency repairs in south west London linking to burst water mains.

The A23 Brixton Hill both ways between Brixton Water Lane and Elm Park has been closed due to emergency watermain repairs.

 

There is a detour in operation for eight bus routes.

A spokesperson for Thams Water said: “We're sorry if you're affected by a burst sewer in Kingston Vale, SW15 3PT.

“We’re on site working to rectify this as soon as possible.

“We apologise for the disruption to the A308 and A3.

“We have closed the nearby sewage pumping station while we carry out the repair, to ensure customers can continue to use their facilities we are using tankers around the clock to remove sewage from the site and reduce impact on the environment.

“We aim to fix the sewer pipe by 22 September 2023.

“We’ll update you again here when we have more information.”
