The body of a man in his 70s has been found in a canal in Woking.
The discovery was made by police in Basingstoke Canal shortly after 7am yesterday (November 7).
Police enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances of the man’s death.
At this time, it is believed that there was no third-party involvement relating to his death.
Road closures were put in place but these have since been lifted.
A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “Officers were called to the Basingstoke Canal in Woking yesterday morning shortly after 7am following a report of a body in the river.
“The body of a man in his 70s has since been recovered from the water.
“Enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances of the death, but at this time we do not believe there to be any third-party involvement.
“There were some road closures in place yesterday morning, but these have since been lifted.”
