The new GP who will take over the 3,000 patients on the list at the Tudor Drive surgery has been announced.

Dr Muneeb Choudhry and Partners of A T Medics will start running services on October 1 after beating off competition to win the contract from Kingston Primary Care Trust.

Two small practices in the one surgery became vacant after Drs Hans Yadav and Dr Ashok Kumar Katiyar both had their registrations suspended by the General Medical Council. Dr Choudhry said: "We have some ambitious plans for the Tudor Drive Surgery which includes late evening and Saturday morning openings.

"In addition, we plan to redevelop the current premises to make them more accessible for all our patients.

"We also plan to have a female GP working at the practice on a regular basis and to increase the nursing input at the practice."

Henry Suppanee of the Tudor Ward Patients' Association, who sat on the selection panel, said: "We believe that the PCT has listened carefully to all the points we have put forward, and has undertaken a thorough and open competitive process.

"Dr Choudhry and Partners achieved a grading of good on all required success categories, the only interviewee to do so. We now look forward to a secure and improved service from the new practice at Tudor Drive."

Chief executive David Smith said: "This is the first time that Kingston PCT has tendered a primary care practice.

"A thorough and robust process was followed and I am delighted with the outcome.

"I am confident that Dr Choudhry and partners will offer an excellent service to patients in Tudor Drive."

Patients registered with the practice will be sent a letter from the PCT about the new arrangements. They will be invited to a public meeting at Tudor Hall at 7pm on Wednesday (July 23) to explain the decision.
