Many bus schedules will be undergoing changes in Sutton and Croydon this weekend.
TfL buses align with the Mayor’s Transport Strategy aiming for 80% of journeys via foot, bike, or public transport by 2041.
There is currently a bus fleet of around 9,300 buses which follow across 675 different routes.
The latest timetable changes are in place to help “match demand, deliver value for money and allow TfL to invest in outer London”.
The following timetable changes which affect the Sutton and Croydon areas will take place on Saturday (March 2):
Route 166 West Croydon - Epsom Hospital
Route 166 will be re-routed between South Croydon, Swan and Sugar Loaf and Purley Cross Tesco and will no longer serve stops on Brighton Road. Route 166 will run via Pampisford Road and Haling Park Road instead replacing withdrawn route 455.
For stops along Brighton Road between South Croydon, Swan and Sugar Loaf and Purley Cross Tesco use bus routes 60, 312, 407 or 466 instead.
A new timetable will be in place with revised departure times on most journeys.
However, there is no change to the frequency of the route with buses running every 20 minutes between West Croydon and Banstead and hourly onto Epsom Hospital on Monday to Saturday daytimes and every 30 minutes between West Croydon and Banstead during the evening and all day on Sundays.
Route 312 Norwood Junction - Purley, Old Lodge Lane
Route 312 will be extended beyond South Croydon bus garage via Brighton Road to Purley Cross double running via Purley Road to serve Purley Station and Tesco then via the current 455 route via Brighton Road and Reedham Station to Old Lodge Lane.
A new timetable will be in place with buses running every 12 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 20 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.
This will provide and additional two buses per hour along Brighton Road and Old Lodge Lane on Monday to Saturday daytime and by one bus per hour during the evening and all day on Sundays.
First buses will depart Purley, Old Lodge Lane for Norwood Junction at 4.30am and from Norwood Junction at 5.10am on all days of the week.
Last buses will depart Purley, Old Lodge Lane for Norwood Junction at 12.10am and from Norwood Junction at 1am on all days of the week.
This provides earlier and later buses to Reedham Station and Old Lodge Lane on all days of the week.
Route 434 Coulsdon, Ridgemount Avenue - Caterham Station
Route 434 will be restructured south of Purley Cross with buses now running to and from Caterham Station via Godstone Road and Croydon Road serving the stations at Kentley, Whyteleafe, Upper Warlingham and Whyteleafe South.
Route 434 will no longer serve Foxley Hill Road, Beaumont Road, Higher Drive, Northwood Avenue, Oaks Road, Oaks Way, Park Road, Kenley Lane, Valley Road, Beverley Road, Hornchurch Hill and Whyteleafe Hill. These roads will be served by new bus route 439 instead.
A new timetable will be in place with buses running every 30 minutes between 7am and 8pm on all days of the week.
First buses will depart Coulsdon, Ridgemount Avenue for Caterham Station at 7.05am and from Caterham Station at 6.40am on all days of the week.
Last buses will depart Coulsdon, Ridgemount Avenue for Caterham Station at 8.05pm and from Caterham Station at 7.30pm on all days of the week.
"New" Route 439 Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's - Whyteleafe South
New route 439 will be introduced running between Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's and Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout via Purley Town Centre replacing part of route 434.
New route 439 will run Waddon Marsh close to the Sainsbury's store and Tram Stop, via Trafalgar Way, Purley Way and Purley Cross Tesco to Purley Station.
Then from Purley Station via the current 434 route via Godstone Road, Foxley Hill Road, Beaumont Road, Higher Drive, Northwood Avenue, Oaks Road, Oaks Way, Park Road, Kenley Station, Kenley Lane, Valley Road, Beverley Road, Hornchurch Hill, Whyteleafe Hill, Whyteleafe Station, Upper Warlingham Station, Godstone Road and Whyteleafe South Station to terminate at Wapses Lodge Roundabout.
Route 439 will run every 30 minutes between 7am and 8pm on all days of the week.
First buses will depart Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's for Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout at 6.45am (7.01am at Purley Station) and Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout at 6.55am (7.14am at Purley Station) on all days of the week.
Last buses will depart Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's for Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout at 8.06pm (8.21am at Purley Station) and Whyteleafe South, Wapses Lodge Roundabout at 7.54am (8.09am at Purley Station) on all days of the week.
Route 455
Route 455 will be withdrawn and replaced by changes to bus routes 166, 312 and S4.
Route 470 Colliers Wood Station - Sutton Station, The Quadrant Route
470 will be withdrawn between Sutton Station and Epsom Town Centre with this section of route replaced by new bus route S2. At Sutton Station buses will set down and pick up at the main Sutton Station bus stops on Brighton Road as well as on The Quadrant for the side entrance to the station by platforms 3 and 4.
Route 470 will also be rerouted between Sutton Common Road and Sutton Green via Marlborough Road, Dibdin Road, Stayton Road and Hallmead Road. It will not serve the hail and ride sections of Sutton Common Road or Angel Hill which will be served by revised route S3 instead.
A new timetable will be in place with buses running every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturdays with no service after 9pm or anytime on Sundays.
"New" Route S2 St Helier Station - Epsom Town Centre
New route S2 will be introduced running between St Helier Station and Epsom Town Centre via Sutton Town Centre replacing parts of routes 470 and S4.
New route S2 will run from St Helier Station via the current S4 route to Sutton Station via Green Lane, Wrythe Lane, St Helier Hospital, Whitby Road, Duke of Edinburgh Road, Edinburgh Road. Grennell Road, Benhill Road, Oakhill Road, Thicket Road, Benhill Avenue and the Sutton Town Centre one-way system to Sutton Station. From Sutton Station new route S2 will replace the current route 470 running via Mulgrave Road, Worcester Road, York Road, Dorset Road, Northey Avenue, Sandy Lane, Cheam Station, Cheam Town Centre, Ewell Road, Cheam Road, Ewell East Station, Ewell By-Pass, Reigate Road, Ewell Town Centre, Epsom Road, and East Street to Epsom High Street to start & finish in Epsom Town Centre.
Route S2 will run every 20 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturdays and every 30 minutes during the evening and all day on Sundays.
This provides a Sunday service for the first time between St Helier Station and Sutton Station and Sutton Station and Epsom Town Centre. It also provides a late evening service for the first time between Sutton Station and Epsom Town Centre.
First buses will depart St Helier Station for Epsom Town Centre at 6am (6.18am at Sutton Station) and from Epsom Town Centre at 6.20am (6.49am at Sutton Station) on all days of the week.
Last buses will depart St Helier Station for Epsom Town Centre at 11.50pm (12.05am at Sutton Station) and from Epsom Town Centre at 12.10am (12.34am at Sutton Station) on all days of the week.
Route S3 Belmont Station - Malden Manor Station
Route S3 will be re-routed between Sutton Common Road and Sutton Green via Sutton Common Road and Angel Hill. It will not serve the hail and ride sections of Marlborough Road, Dibdin Road, Stayton Road and Hallmead Road which will be served by revised route S3 instead.
A new timetable will be in operation on route S3, but the frequency will remain as now with buses running every 20 minutes between 6am and 8.15pm and every 30 minutes between 8.15pm and 9.45pm on Monday to Saturdays.
As now there will be no late evening or all day Sunday service.
Route S4 Sutton, Marshall's Road - Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's Route
S4 will be extended from Roundshaw to Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's replacing route 455 via Plough Lane, Croydon Road, Beddington The Plough, Hilliers Lane, Beddington Lane, Beddington Asda, Beddington Lane, Coomber Way, Therapia Lane Tram Stop, Ampere Way Tram Stop, Franklin Way and Purley Way to start and finish on Trafalgar Way close to Waddon Marsh Sainsbury's and Tram Stop.
Route S4 will be withdrawn between Sutton Town Centre and St Helier Station with this section of route replaced by new bus route S2. In Sutton Town Centre buses will start and finish journeys at bus stop D on Marshall's Road.
A new timetable will be in place with buses on route S4 now running every 20 minutes during the daytime and every 30 minutes during the evening on Monday to Saturdays.
A new Sunday service will also be introduced with buses running every 30 minutes during the daytime and evening.
First buses will depart Sutton, Marshall's Road for Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's at 5.15am and from Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's at 5.45am on all days of the week. Last buses will depart Sutton, Marshall's Road for Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's at Midnight and from Waddon Marsh, Sainsbury's at 11.45pm on all days of the week.
